Holistic, Comprehensive Care Matters - 7S Approach

Women’s mental health needs specialized, comprehensive care that addresses the whole person, not just isolated symptoms. That’s why Seven Starling takes a holistic approach where we don’t just treat symptoms but explore what is contributing to them, support you with evidence- based interventions, and empower you with the tools to thrive.

When you join our medical program you will be provided with a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner (PMHNP) who specializes in women’s mental health care. Your PMHNP will conduct a comprehensive intake to fully assess your needs and create a personalized treatment plan built on four key pillars.

The Four Pillars of Holistic Care

1. Medical Screening & Assessment

Mental health symptoms don't exist in a vacuum. Medical conditions can contribute to, cause, or even mimic psychiatric symptoms, and it's critical to identify these underlying factors.

Your PMHNP will screen for medical contributors like:

  • Thyroid issues
  • Cardiovascular concerns
  • Vitamin deficiencies (B12, D, iron)
  • Hormonal imbalances
  • Anemia and other conditions

2. Psychotherapeutic Interventions

Therapy is a cornerstone of recovery and resilience. Therapy helps you process emotions, develop coping skills, challenge negative thought patterns, and build the tools you need for long-term mental wellness.

Your PMHNP will discuss the importance of:

  • Individual therapy - personalized, one-on-one support tailored to your specific needs and season of life
  • Group therapy - connection with others facing similar challenges, reducing isolation and building community

3. Lifestyle Recommendations

The way we care for our bodies profoundly impacts our mental health. Your PMHNP may provide education and support around:

  • Nutrition - How what you eat affects mood, energy, and brain health
  • Sleep Hygiene - Strategies to improve sleep quality and establish healthy sleep patterns
  • Exercise - The powerful impact of movement on mental wellness
  • Stress Management - Practical tools to navigate the demands of daily life

Your PMHNP will help you set realistic, achievable goals in these areas that fit your life and circumstances.

4. Medication Management (When Appropriate)

For many women, medication is an important part of their treatment plan. Your PMHNP will:

  • Discuss whether medication is appropriate for your symptoms and goals
  • Explain options, risks and benefits
  • Monitor your response and adjust treatment as needed

Medication is never mandatory- it's one tool among many, and the decision is always made collaboratively based on your needs and preferences.

Important Note for those planning pregnancy and currently pregnant patients: We are happy to provide consultations for patients who are currently pregnant or planning to become pregnant. However, at this time, we cannot prescribe medications during pregnancy or the preconception period. We can offer evidence based treatment recommendations to take to your treating provider, and support in navigating decisions about medication during this time.

Your First Session with your PMHNP

Your intake session is the foundation of your personalized treatment plan. Here's how to make the most of it:

Before Your Session:

1. Complete Your Intake Forms Please fill out all intake forms as honestly and thoroughly as possible. The more we understand about your history, symptoms, and circumstances, the better we can help you.

2. Reflect on Your Goals Think about:

  • What brings you to Seven Starling right now?
  • What does "feeling better" look like for you?
  • What are your priorities- symptom relief, lifestyle changes?

During Your Session:

Your PMHNP will:

  • Review and confirm your history in depth- medical, psychiatric, social, and family history
  • Explore your current symptoms and how they're impacting your life
  • Discuss your goals for treatment and what matters most to you
  • Screen for medical contributors to your symptoms
  • Create a personalized treatment plan based on the four pillars of holistic care
  • Answer your questions and address any concerns

This is a collaborative process. Your input, preferences, and goals guide every decision. There are no "wrong" answers, just honest conversation about how to help you feel better.

You Deserve Comprehensive, Compassionate Care

Navigating the perinatal or perimenopausal period, or any life transition can feel overwhelming. You don't have to do it alone, and you don't have to settle for one-size-fits-all treatment.

At Seven Starling, we see you as a whole person. We understand that feeling better takes more than a prescription. It takes understanding your unique story, addressing all contributing factors, and supporting you with the right combination of interventions.

We're here to help you not just survive these transitions, but thrive through them.
